I hope everyone had a nice long weekend!
Last week we continued our learning about letters. Students used the wood pieces to first match letters and then create them on their own. Wood pieces are a big part of our Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum. When learning about letters and writing, students identify the lines that make up a letter. There are 4 main lines, Big Line, Little Line, Big Curve and Little Curve. Try asking your little one about these. Find the lines in the letters of their name. Reiterating this vocabulary at home can help further their knowledge on letter identification.
We also used shaving cream for the first time! They loved getting messy and describing the soft, silky, foam. Students practiced using their finger to write on the tables in the cream.
I have sent home a flyer about playing games at home with your child. I noticed how much they enjoyed the games we played in the classroom and wanted to extend that at home as well.
I have also sent home envelopes for picture orders. EVERYONE will get their picture taken, the envelope is just if you want to order individual pictures. Picture day is Sept 7th and 8th. We are dividing the students up by last name. Students with the last name starting with letters A-M will be photographed on Thursday. Students will the last name starting with letters N-Z will be photographed on Friday. If you are returning a picture envelope you can do that anytime. You DO NOT have to wait until the actual picture day. It is helpful to us if you can send it in early, as the photographers usually come early in the day so we may not have time to check backpacks prior to them coming on those days.
Thank you to all families who ordered Scholastic books last month! I will be sending home new catalogs for the month of September. These orders will be due by September 29th.
